Why are women marginalized?

There are only 1.014 more men to women in the world. But men die sooner
than women and for usually all the wrong reasons. So demographically,
women are about 50% of the world's population at any given time. That
makes women a major voice in the world! You would think so, or does it?.
Then why are women feeling marginalized?? Is it only because of men not
supporting women in their aspirations and dreams? Sometimes, more so in
some area's of the world than in others, but do women also contribute to
this situation?

As a man, I have never understood why women are so hard and sometimes
cruel to one another. Sometimes I think without rhyme nor reason. Yes
you can confide in each other when you want to discuss a problem. You
can open up your emotions and bitch, laugh, cry and let it all hang out
with another woman. But do women really support other women in other
areas or do they judge each other?  Imagine for a moment that women
actually got together (wow, what a voice for  changing the ills of the world)
put away their jealousies and other negatives and made change happen. Is
that impossible? Yes and no. No one can speak for the  masses, but all we
need are a few who are willing and then it will grow from there.

An example of this “snow balling effect” was in the case of a Canadian from
Vancouver, Terry Fox (
www.cbc.ca/news/background/fox_terry/ ). In the
1980's he was a young man with one leg and a dream of raising funds for
the Canadian Cancer Society by running across Canada. He didn't make it
all the way across Canada because his Cancer came back and  eventually
killed him. Did his dream end there? No, because he inspired others to take
up his cause. Today, not only Canada has the Terry Fox run each year in
his memory, but people run world wide .... even in China. Terry was
quoted as saying
“what can one person do” (I don't think he created the
quote) on one of his bad days during his run. Well Terry, unfortunately
you're not here to see the results, but I think you did exceptionally well.
The Terry Fox's “Marathon of Hope” has collected more than
$350,000,000. for Cancer research world wide.

“What can one person do”? Maybe not a lot. Or can they? What if they can
inspire others?  Let's think about that for a moment.

Fina Bella needs women to become members of The Fina Bella Coalition
Against Domestic Violenc
e  who are up for the challenge and who are
willing to add their voice to start making change a reality. Numbers have
the power to make change happen. How can we do this? To start with, we
need you to be passionate about women's issues and tired of being
marginalized. As we grow,  other women's websites/organizations will join
with us in the cause. To give you an idea of the future possibilities, one of
the top women's websites has 20 million visitors each month. But first we
need to become known and creditable. The following is a list of issues in
order of priority:

Domestic Violence (this affects all areas of a womans life) See
www.finabella.org .
Identity and self esteem (Less devastating than above, but a negative to
self-growth)
Children's issues (What can we do to protect children. What affect does
an absentee Father have on the life of a Daughter in the short/long term).

"What can one person do" (1), Well, with determination .........just about
anything they want to!! Can
Fina Bella create change in the world?? With
your help it can. So, speak with your Sisters, Mothers, Daughters, Aunts,
Grandmothers, Cousins, Girlfriends, Female co-workers, Female neighbors
and yes, even the Men in your life that care enough about you that they
want you to succeed and have a better life. Share

Learning From The Most Powerful Women in Business

As finance director at Celsys, a firm that distributes security software in Harare, the capital
of politically troubled Zimbabwe, Rosinah Hove , 30, manages cash flow and cost controls,
and works to prevent financial fraud. What Hove learned from Begley : "As a leader, it pays
to surround yourself with people who are smarter than you and gain their loyalty." Hove's
aha! moment: "I realized that despite her commitment and the glamour of it all, her family
is clearly the most important thing to her." What Begley realized: "Many of the experienced
business leaders have left her country, leaving leaders who are being promoted at very young
ages. Hove was interested in learning how a mature company is run."

Maali Qasem , a 29-year-old Jordanian lawyer who advises companies on
corporate-governance and social-responsibility strategies, spent three weeks with Goldman
Sachs's Dina Powell  and Edith Hunt learning about the Wall Street firm and the American
workplace. What's next for Qasem: Back home she's leading projects aimed at improving
communication in the public sector and creating safe forums for individuals to voice their
concerns and needs. Ultimately she hopes her work will help ensure the development of an
efficient legal system and improve transparency throughout the Middle East and North
Africa. What Powell learned from Qasem: "We're incorporating her feedback on social
networking and online communities in our corporate engagement initiatives." Hunt's
takeaway: "Even though I've traveled broadly and manage a global enterprise, I realize that
I'm still rather U.S.-focused in my thinking. I'll adjust my lens."

Suma Krishnaswamy , a 42-year-old from Bangalore, India, runs a 25-person biotech
company that specializes in developing plant tissue cultures and trading medicinal herbs and
plant extracts. Lesson learned: To help her reach her goals - to create products that cater to
the health-care market and to increase crop yields through modern and traditional
cultivation methods - the India native spent two weeks at DuPont's research facility with
Diane Gulyas . Gulyas's takeaway: "Watching this young woman in meetings with our CEO, I
realized that there must be untapped young talent at DuPont."

Thirty-six-year-old Paola Gonzalez de Villena  runs a company that processes and exports
medicinal products sourced from Peruvian herbs. The 13-person enterprise operates an
online natural-products store, which connects farmers in the Andes Mountains to the global
marketplace. Learning the trade: During her two weeks in Bentonville, Ark., Gonzalez de
Villena studied everything from logistics and merchandising to government relations.
What's next: Gonzalez de Villena and another 2008 mentoring participant from Peru are
creating an association to teach low-income women how to access credit, start businesses,
and reach the global market. Linda Dillman  was impressed by: Gonzalez de Villena's focus on
people, especially the farmers in Peru. "These relationships are one of the main reasons her
business is thriving today."

After watching fellow Nigerians struggle to balance their dreams with the constraints of
reality, Lucy Kanu launched IDEA Builders, a nongovernment organization that works to
improve the lives of disadvantaged women and youth. The experience: Three weeks at Exxon
Mobil taught Kanu to "pay attention to detail in every way" and to remember "no waste, no
excess in processes." Cool opportunity: Ortwein organized a dinner with employees from
Exxon Mobil's Nigerian affiliate where Lucy gave an impassioned talk about her
organization. Ortwein's takeaway:
"Lucy reinforced for me the difference that one person
can make."

those who watch things happen, and those who say, "What happened?"
